 Project 1

Stacy Peralta turns his camera on gangs
After having shot the successful documentaries Dogtown and Z-Boys and Riding Giants, filmmaker Stacy Peralta will next take an inside look at the gangs of Los Angeles, according to a report in Daily Variety. Peralta will produce the untitled project with Dan Halstead.

The documentary will examine the two most infamous gangs in Los Angeles: the Bloods and the Crips. Peralta will use the project to understand the gang phenomenon and to get an informative view on what draws young people into the gang culture. In the film, Peralta will focus on these two specific gangs and the day-to-day lives of a few of their members.

Baron Davis of the NBA's New Orleans Hornets will be providing financing for the film through his Too Easy Entertainment. Rapper The Game will also be financing through Black Wall Street Films. Davis and Game will both executive produce, as will Greg Young and Big Face, their respective partners. Jesse Dylan will also produce in some capacity.

Peralta most recently penned a narrative version of Dogtown, Lords of Dogtown, which will be released this summer. He's also working on a biopic of surfer Greg Noll, who was featured in Riding Giants.

Michael K. Williams (Omar from HBO's "The Wire") and Shari Headley ("Coming to America") star alongside The Game in the gangster tale and love story he describes as "a cross between 'Menace II Society' and 'Love Jones.'" The film is currently in production; The Game plans to sell it to studios as a theatrical release.
