Since the glory days of N.W.A., the West Coast has been waiting for a mythical figure to emerge - a rapper worthy of walking in the footsteps of legends like Dr Dre, Eazy-E, Ice Cube, Snoop - and now the wait is over. Dr Dre has signed The Game to his Aftermath label and he's about to put the West Coast back on the map. The Game has been focussed on nothing other than hip hop in order to make his way out of the gang environment and was signed on the strength of a mixtape track which fell into Dr Dre's hands. The real deal is the music, and the music is absolute fire.
The Game Speaks on N.W.A.
"....I'm just reppin N.W.A. cause thats what I grew up on i'm from Compton, fuckin 5 minutes from where Eazy and them was doin they whole N.W.A. shit me wearin the chain me spitiin N.W.A. is not sayin I'm bringin N.W.A. back or comin out wit another album I dont wanna do that I want N.W.A. to go out like Michael did and they did they went out on top it is wat it is and it was what it was I dont wanna bring the group back I dont wanna bring back ren back and yella, if you think about it these guys had they time when they was young they're older now everybody settin they ways yella got kids ren got kids know what I'm sayin Cube doin his movie thing and he got the westside thing it'll be too much, too much politics, and too much differences know what I'm sayin. Game looks to pioneers like Kool G Rap, N.W.A, Jay-Z, Nas, Biggie, Tupac and Big Daddy Kane as the culture's most important and influential voices, and if the MC hopes to earn a spot alongside them some day, he's gotten off on the right foot. He was one of the most consistent and glorified artists on the mixtape circuit in 2004, and not even a full month into 2005 he's graduated to mainstream success. His album, The Documentary, sold more than 586,000 copies its first week, according to SoundScan, to debut at #1 on the Billboard albums chart.

The Documentary contains many verses reminiscing about NWA, 2Pac, and the good ol' days of West Coast hip-hop.
